Detoxing

Most of us have been tempted by the promises of detoxes

-Us Included-

Detoxes are all the rage these days. Usually they involve some sort of extreme behavior — you have to limit your calories, or your carbohydrate intake, or your red meat intake… or you have to sweat out the toxins with intense exercise, or flush them out with diuretics and enemas, or burn them out with cayenne pepper and lemon juice.

If you already spent time on some cleanse or detox diet, at some point in the process you likely felt worn out, irritable, depressed, jittery, or fixated on food.

Maybe you also experienced headaches, diarrhea, or dizziness so badly that it made you want to give up.

The gurus of these programs often prepare you for some unpleasantness over a long period. Sure, you’re cleansing your body of all the “toxic” substances you previously absorbed. You need to feel the nasty effects of those “impurities” leaving your system.

Nope

Feeling like crap for a long period of time has nothing to do with detox

You felt like crap because you likely weren’t eating enough — plain and simple.
To Detox your body you are not supposed to starve yourself.

Sadly there is a lot of misleading information from both sides, the alternative side and the conventional side.

Detoxification is a very important process.
We are designed to detox.
It is the natural process of your body getting rid of toxins.

The body’s own detoxification systems are remarkably sophisticated and versatile. They have to be, as the natural environment that we evolved in is hostile. It is remarkable that people are prepared to risk seriously disrupting these systems with unproven “detox” / “cleansing”  diets, which could well… do more harm than good.

The organs in your body that process waste and filter out toxins don’t need to be “cleansed”. Your liver and kidneys are self cleansing. They’re like a complex wastewater processing facility that uses chemicals to neutralize and clear out toxic compounds.

The only thing You need to do is to give the body the nutrients that it needs so it can "detox" on its own.

The Magic Is In You

We do NOT need to force the body to detox, what you eventually do with every kind of detox method (herbs, chelators, enemas, colonics…) out there.

Anyone interested in detoxifying their body might think about paying a little more attention to their body and less attention to the people trying to get their money.

Some of the most popular Cleanses are regimens centering around juices or smoothies with little or no solid food, or diets in which a wide range of supposedly toxic foods are eliminated. Marketers of detoxes and cleanses almost never provide any scientific rationale for why these foods are considered toxic, which is the first clue that there’s something fishy going on here.

Generally speaking, anything that eliminates entire food groups or numerous foods is not safe in the long term and will not give you the desirable outcomes.

This
Is
Your Body
On
A "Cleanse"

The main issue with these kinds of detox programs is that they essentially advocate starving the body of the fuel it needs.
This leads to a drop in blood sugar, which the body attempts to correct by releasing a reserve of glucose called glycogen from the muscles. Glycogen, by the way, is bound up with water, so releasing it causes water weight losses typically seen on cleanses or detox.

But prolonged starvation can lead to hypoglycemia. This is potentially dangerous because of low blood sugar that can cause anxiety, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and confusion.
Makers of detox and cleanse programs attribute these symptoms to the toxins being eliminated from the body, which they say have accumulated in the digestive organs, liver, and kidneys from eating and drinking too many of the “wrong” things.

The Same Goes For Your Intestines. There Is No Need To “Rest” The Gut.

In fact, the gastrointestinal tract functions best when it’s being used. Diets without adequate calories or solid food can cause slowed digestion and constipation.

You may claim now, that you DID feel better on a “Cleanse” where you just do juices and smoothies.
In this time you are not eating things like meat (heme iron) and dairy (less calcium), and are likely getting more vitamins and minerals from the juice than you normally get from your food.
It will help you in certain ways and that is why you feel better for some time. But just until you run out of enough amino acids, fatty acids, and things like B12 that aren’t in juice.

Give the body
what it needs so the body can do
what it wants,
when it wants.

If any of your detoxification systems, however, become overburdened from poor lifestyle choices, poor diet, environmental pollutants, medications or genetic weaknesses, we can find ourselves feeling below average.
We use the Hair Mineral Analysis because things show up in the hair when your detoxification pathways Liver, kidneys and skin are overwhelmed.

Going on a Nutritional program will not only help you feel less crazy, but it also has been linked to better health outcomes.
